To begin the season of Lent...

We have heretofore allowed for much on the Blessed Mother. This is because she is the one who by grace is our perfect example of obedience to the will of Christ...and thus a secure path to holiness.
Now, as we begin the Lenten season--in prayer, penance and fasting, let us look to our Mother and her example of perfect obedience to the will of God.

Let us ponder these things...but mostly, let us pray...
"Know also this, that in the last days, shall come dangerous times. Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, haughty, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked, without affection, without peace, slanderers, incontinent, unmerciful, without kindness, traitors, stubborn, puffed up, and lovers of pleasure more than God: Having an appearance in deed of godliness, but denying the power thereof...ever learning, and never attaining to the knowledge of the truth."
--2 Timothy, 3:1-7

  1. Lent is the true opportunity for penance and fasting that must accompany the life of every Catholic, without exception. WE must repent and turn away from sin if we are to be united to the one who destroyed death. Lent for many, has become incarcerated in the arena of sentimentality, as those who make no progress in their daily living toward the cross and to eternal life treat this holy season with nothing over and above their natural daily course, those things mentioned by Paul in 2 Timothy. We are made of dust and to dust we shall return, a concept meant to make us think, that our time is measured and short and so many souls to be saved.
